Santa Rosa, Sonoma County
Plant breeder Luther Burbank arrived in Santa Rosa in 1875 and worked here for the next fifty years, introducing the Shasta daisy, the Santa Rosa plum and hundreds of other varieties. His home, greenhouse and gardens survive on a downtown corner as a city park. The gardens are free to walk through, and Burbank himself is buried on the grounds.
